GIY’s partnership with Waterford City & County Council is prominently featured in our collaboration on the Waterford Harvest Festival. Waterford City and County Council, in partnership with GIY, has showcased sustainability measures that festival and event organisers can adopt for more sustainable events. The Harvest Festival, which is funded by Waterford City & County Council and produced by GIY, emphasises sustainability at the core of its activities. This festival includes ‘GIY Food Matters’ talks focusing on food sustainability, featuring esteemed food writers, chefs, activists, journalists, and business people.
In addition to this, GIY, in cooperation with Healthy Ireland and Libraries Ireland, also launched the “Grow it Forward” initiative in 2020. This initiative involved distributing 50,000 free food growing kits, encouraging participants to share their experiences with others. This project aimed to enable half a million people across Ireland to enjoy the benefits of growing food at home.
Overall, the partnership between GIY and Waterford City & County Council is centered on promoting sustainability, food education, and community engagement through various initiatives, particularly the Harvest Festival and the Grow it Forward campaign.
