Brian Alcorn

Retail Manager

“I decided to try growing some veg at home, but had little clue where to begin. I found some clips from GROW COOK EAT and that led me to GIY. The more I learned about GIY the more I loved the ethos.”

Brian grew up in Northern Ireland before heading to England for university, where he led his Students’ Union for two years and got a taste for the not-for-profit sector. From there he moved to Glasgow to work for Mary’s Meals and then a short-lived stint in Uganda, before returning to settle in Ireland.

He joined GIY as Operations Coordinator in 2021 and is now the Retail Coordinator. He recently completed a course in Social Enterprise Management at WIT. Brian is a passionate omnivore and thinks GIY is making a huge impact in getting ordinary people growing ordinary food, extraordinarily!

Brian lives in Co Tipperary with his wife Abbie and their daughter, along with two cats and a few hens! In his free time he likes to watch Netflix, dig around the garden, and is an amateur campanologist with St Canice’s Cathedral.

GIY stories

Meet some of our GIYers (that’s people who grow some of their own food) who all champion Food Empathy – a deeper understanding and connection with food from their experience of growing. If you want food done right, then grow it yourself.
