Billy Hurricks

People & Culture Coordinator

“No day is the same working for GIY in the People & Culture team. Whatever you’re working on, you know that when you finish for the day you are contributing to something bigger than yourself”

Billy’s professional background is in recruitment. He has worked in various industries in London, including tech, multi-lingual and graduate, before moving with his partner to her hometown, Waterford City, in 2021.

Billy is an outgoing, people-person with an interest in different cultures and psychology. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in German and French, which included modules in early language acquisition, Mandarin and Spanish. Billy is also a mental health advocate who encourages positive conversations around mental health that aim to break the stigma associated with speaking-out. A career working with people is where Billy belongs.

Outside of work, you’ll find Billy taking in the beautiful spots that Co. Waterford has to offer. It’s a very different vibe to his hometown in the the east-end of London. When Billy isn’t enjoying the Irish outdoors, you’ll find him on the sofa – or, occasionally, at a match – cheering on his beloved West Ham United.

GIY stories

Meet some of our GIYers (that’s people who grow some of their own food) who all champion Food Empathy – a deeper understanding and connection with food from their experience of growing. If you want food done right, then grow it yourself.
