The GROW Circle is a group of visionary companies that provide invaluable multi-annual investments to support the work of GIY and GROW HQ. The GROW Circle supports the ongoing development of GIY, ensuring we can deliver ground-breaking, innovative food empathy programmes that inspire people to grow some of their own food as a path to a healthier life. In return, we support these companies to deliver their key HR, CSR and PR objectives and promote wellbeing for their employees, their workplace and their community.
Opened in Waterford in October 2016, GROW HQ contains a 65-seater café, shop and education centre in a stunning eco-building, and 3 acres of food production and teaching gardens. GROW HQ is about breaking down the barriers between where food is grown, cooked and eaten.
Our home-grown food café got glowing reviews from The Irish Times, The Sunday Times and more. We have received a McKenna Guides award and were voted Best Newcomer and National Food Hero in the Irish Restaurant Awards, and Best Food Business in the Waterford Chamber awards.
First Year Highlights
1. Generated employment for 18 people and attracting 1,000 visitors per week.
2. Over 120 courses, school visits, summer camps, Kids Clubs and teacher training courses.
3. Employed a Therapeutic Horticulturalist to work with projects including direct provision centres and addiction programmes.
4. Developed the Eat Together social eating programme to give children an experience of social eating and nutritious food.
5. Hosted companies such as Applegreen, Abbott and Red Hat for GROW COOK EAT away-days.
We’re getting ready for the opportunities from our new 7-part TV series (called GROW COOK EAT), which is being filmed at HQ and will be aired on RTE in spring 2018. Key to this will be the further development of the site, completing the landscaping and adding infrastructure additions to give us more options for training and events. In 2018 we will develop an urban foraging trail, a living classroom for kids and a new orchard and fruit area.
“We are delighted to support the important work that GIY is doing in reconnecting people with food. At the same time, the wellbeing of our employees is hugely important to us, and we had a brilliant day there this year with 40 of our site managers.”
Jo Coffey – Marketing Manager, Applegreen
GROW Circle Details
Current members of the GROW Circle include Three Mobile, Genzyme, Ballymaloe Cookery School, AIB, Miele, Renault and Supervalu. To create a €100,000 fund to support this next phase of our development, we are looking for 10 new companies to join the GROW Circle this year. The fee for a 2 year membership of the GROW Circle is €10,000 (€5,000 per annum). In return for this investment, we offer a range of benefits:
Each year of your membership we will work with you to devise a food-empathy programme for your staff, helping your employees to get healthier and happier at work. This could be a bespoke ‘al-desko’ growing programme at your workplace or a food empathy ‘away-day’ at GROW HQ, where your team get to grow, cook and eat home-grown food.
Your company’s name will join the GROW Circle wall at GROW HQ. GROW Circle companies will receive a GROW Circle certificate and exclusive logo to highlight their commitment to the GIY cause. They will also be profiled on the GIY website, in the GIY Ezine the GROW HQ Newsletter and in our quarterly magazine.
Joining the GROW Circle means you are helping GIY to create a new wellbeing legacy for Ireland and impacting the lives of over 500,000 people every year.
