Set on 4 acres in Waterford City, we’re just across the road from University Hospital Waterford at Ardkeen. It’s sort of the last place you’d expect to find people growing food, but that’s why we love it so much. Click here for more info on how to find GROW HQ.
Our stunning eco-building with it’s distinctive green roof was designed by Solearth Architecture to remove the barriers between where food is grown, cooked and eaten. Our cafe looks out on the kitchen garden and vice versa.
Our award-winning 65-seat cafe serves the most nutritious, delicious, seasonal food and we put our veg centre stage (but we also showcase the finest free-range, local meat, poultry, fish and cheese). Mostly the distance from plot to plate is about 112 steps. Richard and the garden team grow it, JB and kitchen team cook it, and our lovely customers eat it! Expect a warm, bright and good humoured welcome with a food ethos that’s home-grown, fresh, organic, healthy and delicious. If you are time-pressed we also offer a range of takeaway soups and sandwiches. We’re open daily (7 days) for breakfast and lunch from 9am to 5pm and on Thursday, Friday & Saturday evenings we offer a beautiful bistro menu until 9pm. Find out more about the GROW HQ cafe here.

Learn how to grow or cook, or both together in our two dedicated training rooms or the garden. We’ve got classes in everything from foraging to fermenting, soil preparation to vegan cooking, sprouting to beekeeping. There are yoga and mindfulness classes in our cosy room upstairs and we’ve got a monthly panel discussion on diverse topics like gut health and soil health. Our garden team are in the process of developing our 4 acres to include a stone-walled kitchen garden, our urban demo garden where the TV programme Grow Cook Eat is filmed, an orchard, edible boundary, foraging trail and much more. We currently produce our veg in our production garden at the south end of the site, and in a 1-acre garden with two polytunnels at Carriganore.
