We are looking for a passionate and experienced Café / Restaurant Supervisor to join us and lead the GROW HQ front of house team. The award winning GROW HQ is GIY’s national Food Education Centre and our café recently won the Plot to Plate award at the 2017 Food & Wine Awards.  Reporting to the Centre Manager, the Café / Restaurant Supervisor will help us to deliver an outstanding service offering in line with our vision and values.



GROW HQ opened in October 2016 on a high-profile 3-acre site at Ardkeen in Waterford city. It is the home of the GIY movement and a place where people can immerse themselves in growing, cooking and eating homegrown food. It includes a 65 seat café, shop, grow school, cookery school and food garden.  The café is a unique, bright and lively space that has quickly become a hub in our community.


Role Summary

The Café / Restaurant Supervisor is a key role in providing a warm welcome and fantastic customer experience to all visitors. The successful candidate will lead the Front of House team to deliver an exceptional food and service experience for GROW HQ customers. They will ensure that GROW HQ delivers its high standard of service objectives whilst ensuring that the GIY mission is cultivated.


Key Responsibilities

The Café / Restaurant Supervisor’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


  • Key holder responsibilities including opening up and closing down
  • Attending team and management meetings as required
  • Setting and maintaining an outstanding standard of customer service in the café, and ensuring that all staff provide the warmest of welcomes to customers.
  • Ensuring our ethos is communicated to all customers.
  • Supervising the cafe team, and responsible for the presentation of the food and beverages offered for sale.
  • Ensuring good timekeeping and performance by staff.
  • Assisting the GROW HQ management team to maintain the standards of hygiene and health and safety at all times; working on purchasing and other projects as required and completion of admin duties.
  • Operating the till and taking receipt of payments; ensuring all cash, cheque and credit card transactions are completed accordingly, and till reconciliation.


Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for an exceptional, experienced and qualified individual who shares GIY’s culture, vision and values.


  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a fast-moving Food & Beverage business at supervisory level.
  • Ability to calmly lead and inspire a team and thrive in a fast-paced environment, in line with GIY’s culture and values.
  • Excellent attention to detail. Able to constantly learn and improve.
  • Ability to anticipate scenarios and requirements of a high volume of guests during peak times.
  • A passion for hyper-local, seasonal food.

GROW HQ operates 7-days a week from 9am-5pm and 9am-8:30pm Friday and Saturday evenings with some other evening events. The working hours will be based on a 40-hour week.
