Energia Get Ireland Growing was first launched in 2016 to promote community food growing projects nationwide. Through this initiative Energia, in partnership with GIY, supported 257 community groups with grants totalling €220,000. The recipients included schools, NGOs and not-for-profit organisations, community gardens and allotment groups, GIY groups, hospitals, crèches, direct provision centres and Men’s Sheds all across the country.
Last year, the Energia Get Ireland Growing campaign focused on making it easy to grow at home in order to help power a more sustainable future. We began the campaign by giving away 1,000 GROWBoxes and continued by giving away €10,000 worth of food growing prizes, including Community GROWBoxes – one-of-a-kind seed libraries – and a community garden worth €3,000, awarded to the most inspiring community of growers.
We are very excited to continue the Get Ireland Growing campaign this year and get more people than ever growing their own food at home. Details of the 2021 campaign will be announced soon.
